On 14 July BBC reporter Charles Gardner gave com mentary on a dogfight going on above the English Channel as Ju87 Stuka dive bombers attacked a British convoy in the opening stages of the Battle of Britain. The recording became controversial at the time, as it was deemed too excitable akin to a football commentary.
