  1. Honeycomb is the tenth studio album by American alternative rock musician Frank Black, released in July on Back Porch Records. His first original solo work since 's The Cult of Ray, Honeycomb was recorded in Nashville, and features notable local session musicians, such as Steve Cropper and ex- Presley guitarist Reggie Young.
  2. Honeycomb is a nice album; the type of thing you put on while doing other stuff. Unfortunately, that's faint praise for Black. Perhaps the hook of Honeycomb is simply that Black is competently doing alt-country material. Though, I think listeners are entitled to a little more. Unlike a Pixies' record, the style does not vary greatly from song to song. It's *all* laid back stuff. It's so hard.

  7. Honeycomb may have taken just four days in a Nashville studio to record, but it will surely be remembered as perhaps the greatest Frank Black LP (to date, at least) and perhaps even as the record that made it cool to like country again (get your coat, Keith Urban). Then again, it might just be the summer soundtrack that you spin only once a year.
